Alpha Esquires Service Project

On Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, from 11am – 3pm the Esquires will perform a community service project at the Highland Park Boys and Girls Club.  The Esquires will set up an information/recruitment table during the Mentor organization fair portion of the event. The Esquires will help man the table and answer questions about the Esquire Program. Then our Esquires will assist with the Tie Tying Seminar. Our Esquires will be teaching the younger men ages 10-13 yrs old how to correctly wear shirts, ties and cuff links for business and interview situations. The Alpha Esquires will be donating ties to the young men who attend the lecture. We will also give a 10 minute presentation about the Esquire Program. A Study Skills and Test Taking Techniques Seminar will also be offered by Bro. Kyles Hamilton at the event.

Membership Requirements:

  1. Male in grade 8 or above and attends a public, private or charter middle or high school.
  2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 or above.
  3. Copy of most recent transcript/grade report.
  4. Two letters of recommendation:
    • Adult family or relative.
    • Adult non family member (pastor, teacher, counselor, principal, employer, neighbor or family friend.
  5. One essay (at least 100 words) on either of the following topics:
    • Why I would like to be an Alpha Esquire?
    • Where do I see myself in ten (10) years?
  6. No history/contact with the criminal and or juvenile justice system.
  7. No negative conduct or citizenship marks on the grade report.  Applicant must have citizenship marks of less than or equal to 2’s.
  8. Parent/Guardian must come to the first meeting and attend at least three parent/guardian meetings per calendar year in order for your child to continue membership in the Alpha Esquire program.
  9. Membership Fee (cash, certified check or money order).  No personal checks accepted.
    • $100.00 for new members (Fee includes an Esquire Jacket and polo shirt),
    • Cashier check or money order made payable to Alpha Esquires.

** Students from Alternative schools/academies are prohibited.
*** Refunds will not be given. 

Accepted Package Process

If the candidate package is complete and approved by the membership committee, each potential member will be invited to a Final Formal Interview (Date and Time TBA).

Candidates Attire for interview:

  • Dark suit, white shirt (must be tucked in with a belt), dark tie.
  • Dress or hard sole shoes.
  • If the candidate does not own a suit the candidate may wear black dress pants, dark tie, white shirt (must be tucked in with a belt) and dress or hard sole shoes.

  1. My son has been a Alpha Esquire since the 8th grade and is currently a senior in high school just wondering if the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity have any scholarships that he can apply for?
